Storytelling

Mark Turner, Cognitive Scientist, Linguist, and Author said, “Story is the fundamental instrument of thought. It is our chief means of looking into the future, or predicting, of planning, and of explaining. Hence Storytelling is one of the important initiatives of Starry Stories.

A Short Story extracted from Letters From A Father To His Daughter by Jawaharlal Nehru was told to Children. The story of how Nehru made young Indira Priyadarshini to fascinate about the Wonders of Earth.

Children were engaged in this Story, you can see their reactions from the video below.

“Storytelling is our obligation to the next generation. If all we are doing is marketing, we are doing a disservice, and not only to our profession, but to our children, and their children. Give something of meaning to your audience by inspiring, engaging, and educating them with story. Stop marketing. Start storytelling.”

Practical Science Demonstrations

This is the first Science workshop in Visakhapatnam which featured Practical Science Demonstrations related to Aeronautics and Fluid dynamics. The complex phenomenons of air were break down into simple and interactive experiments so that even the very young children could understand them very easily.

List of Practical Science Demonstrations

Cloud in Bottle

What if we can show young children the process of the water cycle in a closed room in just a matter of second? We have designed a unique apparatus using crude materials to form a cloud in a bottle. Using Joule Thomson Effect and little help from volatile liquid (Ethanol), we have managed to create a cloud in a bottle. Read more about Cloud in Bottle.

Vortex Rings

The complex phenomenon of fluid dynamics is demonstrated using just a bucket and sublimation. Read more about Smoke Rings (Vortex Rings)

Centripetal Force Board

Imagine Glass of water being swung at high speed using the centripetal force. Read more about Centripetal Force Board

The genie in the bottle

Catalytic decomposition of hydrogen peroxide will introduce the young audience with the magic of chemistry. They will definitely fall in love with chemistry through this exciting science demonstration. Smoke from the bottle almost feels like magic.

Pressure Experiments

Our Earth is surrounded by a blanket of air called the Atmosphere. Although air is invisible to our eyes, we can feel the effects of air in our day to day life. The weight of all this air acts vertically downwards on Earth creating a pressure called the Atmospheric Pressure. The occurrence of winds is mainly due to the difference in this Atmospheric Pressure. We cannot even drink our favorite juice or cold drink without Atmospheric pressure. Here are some experiments to demonstrate the effects of Atmospheric pressure

Bottle with holes Experiments – Do Not Open Bottle

The magic of Surface Tension and Atmospheric Pressure provides an exciting demonstration for the understanding and visualization of Atmospheric pressure. Students can also try this experiment at home very easily.

The Classic Upside-down Glass of Water

This Experiment is almost covered in every state and central syllabus textbooks but teachers often fail to demonstrate the activity and the reason behind the phenomena. Thus, this classic experiment is demonstrated in the Science workshop in Visakhapatnam.

Aeronautics Experiments

Floating Ball and Floating Bulb

This demonstration introduces us to the world of flying objects and the scientific principles behind them. Gigantic Aircraft which lifts off the ground uses the same principles which are demonstrated in the present activity.

Flying Tissue

What is Drag and how lift works, these two concepts are demonstrated while having a basic understanding of pressure

The Practical Science Demonstrations session was completed with curious doubts and smiling faces. The next session is Learning by Doing. Science kit designed by Starry Stories was provided to all students.
